Responsibility, Education, Academics and Leadership GroupREAL is a support group for young males, ages 8-17. REAL group staff and volunteers are dedicated to mentoring young people. The professional staff serves as role models. Therefore, a source of hope is provided for children and youths whose life situations are short on hope. In providing these resources, our goal is to prevent or at least provide an attractive alternative to gang life. CCFC also has professionals who are skilled in drug and alcohol treatment, CCFC places an emphasis on prevention, as well.
Program services are implemented to redirect "at risk" male teens away from harmful lifestyles. While drug and gang prevention activities are geared to help point children away from involvement in unwholesome activities. CCFC’s dedicated staff and volunteers become positive role models for male teens. One of the program objectives is to offer male teens a sense of autonomy, while dealing with their interpersonal problems and day to day issues. While the REAL group functions like a supportive community yet there is also a focus on each member of the group. The agency recognizes that none of our teens confront the exact same problems everyday, as nuclear family circumstances are different.
The REAL program mirrors CCFC's approach to youth and family well being and development. It is based on the premise that each person is unique and the need of respect and trust. We want to hear the “individual’s voice”, as well as the groups’ collective voice”. Strategies relating to coping with an abusive home environment, peer pressure, violence, substance abuse, and sexual activity are freely discussed within the group.
